Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 to have 3D facial recognition

The leaks and rumors about phones with flagship specs keep coming, and Xiaomi joins the mix too. The upcoming phablet Mi Mix 2, rumored to be eventually unveiled in September, is going to have 3D face recognition.

The alleged screenshot from the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 lockscreen has an outline of a head, prompting the user to look at the phone to unlock it. According to the Weibo leakster, this will be a feature implemented in the MIUI 9 and will arrive with the big phone, thus not being available for all the other Xiaomi phones bound to get the latest version of the UI.

Since this image does not reveal much, we might also see

a more simple solution that Samsung implemented with the Galaxy Note7 that eventually was transferred to the Galaxy S8. Sony also has a similar feature which runs even on mid-range devices like the Xperia XA1 Ultra and the even more affordable Xperia L1.

The image might also be a mere suggestion what should the lockscreen of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 have, neatly packed under the claim of being a leak. We will have more clarity once the phone is launched next month.
