In a teardown performed by Dylan over at 9to5Google the newest version of the Google App 7.1.2 reveals a few new features that are coming to the upcoming Google Pixel 2 and Google Assistant alike.
The first and most significant clue in the teardown is the Google Pixel 2’s rumored “Active Edge” feature, which works like the HTC U11’s Edge Sense: give the phone’s frame a squeeze and you can summon Google Assistant. Here is the code that supports the rumor:

The next feature is called “Routines” and builds on top of Google Assistant’s shortcuts by letting you program a phrase to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Google Home already offers a number of relaxing sounds and according to the teardown, it might be making its way to the Google App. To initiate the feature, say “Play sleep sounds”. Then you can choose between “Meditation”, “Nature”, “Ocean”, “Sleep”, and “Thunderstorm”.
Various strings of text also suggest that Google Assistant will gain refined podcast playback controls including the ability to “continue last plated podcast” as well as “Playback preferences”.
