Qualcomm and Samsung announced in separate press releases that the Korean manufacturer would build the upcoming 5G Snapdragon chipsets. They will be made on the 7nm process technology, a massive step in introducing the extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV).

Compared to the 10 nm FinFET chips, the EUV tech will provide 40% area efficiency, 10% higher performance and up to 35% lower power consumption. The deployment will break the barriers of Moore’s law scaling and will lead the way to single-digit nanometer semiconductor tech generations.
The information comes as a confirmation of a rumor from last Thursday that Qualcomm might launch its newly announced X24 modem on a 7nm Snapdragon SoC in 2019. Nearly 50 manufacturers and carriers already expressed willingness to support the new standard and to push 5G-enabled devices next year.
