While Huawei has made even the Mate 9 available in the US in unlocked form, it's never gone the same route for any handset in the P line, so this latest development is basically part of the company's overall sales strategy. There's a lotof paranoia in the US regarding its ties with the Chinese government, so don't expect things to change for the better anytime soon.
