iWork update makes it an even better fit for use with the Apple Pencil

Apple has announced an updated version of iWork alongside the new iPad at its education event. The new suite of apps has been designed to take better advantage of the Apple Pencil.

For starters, users will now be able to draw, sketch or write with the Apple Pencil directly in any of the three iWork apps — Pages, Numbers and Keynote. New tools have been added to make it easy to make drawings, illustrations and diagrams within these apps.

A new feature called Smart Annotation has been introduced, currently in beta. With this, the user can annotate text in a document by adding comments and proof marks and the annotations anchor themselves to the text and move along with it as you scroll. This is designed for users to give, receive and incorporate feedback within a document.

Book creation feature has

also been introduced to Pages on both iOS and macOS. Users can create interactive digital books, from short stories to travel books, using a variety of templates and then customize them with drawings using iWork's new drawing tools or with image galleries and videos from their Photos library. Users can collaborate in real time to create books on the iPad, iPhone, Mac and iCloud.com. These books can then be viewed within the iBooks app.

Other new features include a Presenter Mode in Pages to transform the iPad or iPhone into a virtual teleprompter. The text can be made to auto-scroll at an adjustable speed and can be customized further during text playback. Integration with file sharing service Box lets users collaborate in real-time in Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents stored in Box.

The iWork suite of apps is available for free on iOS and macOS.
