YouTube is the world's most popular streaming service. You already know what you can find there. The service is so big that there are multiple apps for browsing all of the content. They're all let you explore various parts of YouTube in different ways. Here are all five YouTube apps and what they do! One of them we won't talk about is YouTube Studio, an app for creators. Most people won't need that one.

YouTube is the basic YouTube experience. It lets you manage your subscriptions, watch videos, comment, create playlists, watch some movies (if you buy them), watch live streams, and engage with YouTube Red content. Most people know this app and what it does. This is probably the app you use and are most familiar with. YouTube Red is an optional subscription for $9.99 per month. It opens up YouTube Red content, removes advertising, allows background play, and more. This is the one everyone starts with.
YouTube Gaming focuses mostly on the gaming side of YouTube. The videos are a healthy mix of live streaming content and regular YouTube videos. This app strips out basically everything from YouTube. You won't find music videos or tech news here. The app also has a screen capture and stream feature. Thus, you can easily join the fun with mobile games. It's all free to use with optional in-app purchases. Viewers can pay for super comments (comments that are vastly more noticeable than everyone else's) and sponsor streamers with monthly subscriptions. It's not too different from Twitch and, in our opinion, the layout is much easier to use.

YouTube Kids is like YouTube Gaming, but for kids. It strips out most of the stuff on YouTube and shows only kid-friendly content. It features multiple profile for multiple kids, channel blocking, faster video reporting than the regular YouTube app, and other parental controls. Most of the videos are educational. It's not bad for what it is. It had some problems in the early days with bad advertising and some other stuff. However, the service is mostly clean now. YouTube Red removes the ads and gives YouTube Kids other features.
YouTube Music is yet another spin-off from the main YouTube app. This one handles music and strips out everything else. You can create playlists, follow artists, and the app prioritizes things like concert recordings and live performances. Plus, the app starts a playlist of random, related songs whenever you watch a video. The extra music features make this great for people who listen to music predominately on YouTube. This also might become its own music service someday. Stay tuned!
YouTube TV is the last big YouTube app. It's YouTube's live TV app and doesn't have a lot of actual YouTube videos. For $39.99 per month you get several dozen channels of live cable TV. The app also includes YouTube Red exclusive content. However, having YouTube TV doesn't give you YouTube Red. Frankly, the live TV stuff is why most people get YouTube TV. The YouTube Red stuff is mostly a cherry on top of the sundae. It's okay for what it is, but there are other live TV options as well.
