Apple iPhone X Plus and 'budget' iPhone X design and size leak in schematics

We've seen the renders of the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus and the renders of the 6.1-inch 'budget' iPhone and now we have the schematics detailing the size and various aspects of their design. The schematics come by way of Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly in collaboration with case-maker Ghostek.

6.5-inch iPhone

The upcoming flagship iPhone (the iPhone X Plus?) will have a 6.5-inch 19:9 OLED screen in a body measuring 157.2 x 77.1mm. That's more compact than the current iPhone 8 Plus' 158.4 x 78.1mm.

Rumors have it the next iPhone top dog will use a steel chassis (like the iPhone X), hence weighing more than the iPhone 8 Plus' 202g.

Finally, according to Gordon Kelly, the 6.5-inch iPhone will indeed have a triple camera. He says the three cutouts in the render are lenses and the flash isn't shown. It will likely hang out on the side of the triple camera module. What the new third camera will do is as of yet still unknown.

The notch on the front of the 6.5-inch iPhone seems smaller and is rumored to house Face ID 2.0.

6.1-inch iPhone

The 6.1-inch iPhone is labeled as the 'budget' model and

is expected to offer a single camera and Face ID 1.0 - the same as on the iPhone X and occupying a larger notch than the one pictured in the 6.5-inch iPhone's render.

The 6.1-inch phone measures 147.12 x 71.52mm and is understandably taller than the X (143.6 x 70.9mm), given its bigger screen (6.1-inch vs 5.8-inch).

Another factor that deems the 6.1-inch iPhone 'budget' is the fact that it will lose 3D Touch - we don't expect many tears to be shed over this.

So those are two of the projected three iPhones for 2018. We expect the third one to be an almost carbon-copy of the iPhone X with faster internals, Face ID 2.0 and perhaps the same triple camera as the 6.5-inch top of the line iPhone.

According to sources Apple will lower prices of its iPhone range by $300 over 2017's models. This could mean that the most expensive model could be priced similarly to the current iPhone X while the 'budget' 6.1-inch iPhone could be priced as low as the iPhone 8.

We'll have to wait and see.
