Weekly poll: which Xiaomi Mi 8 version is your favorite?

Xiaomi unveiled three new phones this week – the mainstream flagship, the “dressed to impress” model and a more compact, more affordable version. Now that you’ve had a few days to let their specs settle in, what do you think?

The base Xiaomi Mi 8 features a 6.21” Super AMOLED display with HDR10 and DCI-P3 support. There’s sizable notch in it that houses Xiaomi’s own face scanning technology.

The dual 12 MP camera on the back of the phone is rated highly – DxO says it takes better photos than the Galaxy S9+. And it can record 2160p video at 60 fps. Not bad for a phone that start at CNY 2,700 ($420/€360).

Weekly poll: which Xiaomi Mi 8 version is your favorite?

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer is mostly the same phone, except it has more advanced facial recognition hardware plus an under display fingerprint reader. It also has an attractive translucent back - you can see the Snapdragon 845 chip through the glass -

neat!

The Explorer will launch a month later than the other two and cost CNY 3,800 ($600/€500), that's a bit more than the top-specced Mi 8. The Explorer has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage, the top Mi 8 model has 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage.

While the base Mi 8 is the first phone with dual GPS, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the first with Snapdragon 710. The AI-focused chip can’t match the S845 in GPU performance, but should be up there in CPU speed. And the chip is still capable of 2160p at 60fps video recording. Its high frame rate mode goes up to 1080p at 120 fps (not bad, but the other two can do it at 240 fps).

The SE model will cost CNY 1,800 ($280/€240) so that’s a surprising amount of bang for the buck. You get a slightly smaller Super AMOLED – 5.88” - but that also makes the phone more compact. It still has a notch, though the facial scanning hardware is gone.

Well, which one is your favorite?
