Blob emojis are back as animated stickers on GBoard

Last year, Google decided to redesign the emoji roster for Android 8.0. This was the first time Android had completely redesigned its emojis since Android 4.4 KitKat “Gumdrop” or sometimes called “blob” shaped emojis were introduced. Google went for a rounder emojis to look more like Apple’s more popular set but got rid of these other abnormally shaped ones for good, or so we thought.

The blobs are back, baby! Have a #WorldEmojiDay treat with new animated blob emoji stickers on Android Messages and #Gboard.

Android brings back these blob emoji in the form of an animated sticker pack on GBoard. You can find these guys by pressing the emoji key in GBoard and then tapping on the sticker tab. Hit the “+” icon and you’ll see the blob emoji waving at you. This sticker pack is called: “The Blobs Live On – the classic emojis return for more.”

GBoards stickers work well on most messaging apps. Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Android Messages are the big ones. Otherwise, they won’t work as easily on other apps like Instagram or Twitter DMs. Check out the sticker pack by using GBoard.
