Week 30 in review: Xiaomi launches Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, Galaxy Note9 edges closer

As we scratch off another week from the calendar we're starting to feel the rapid approach of the H2 flagships. First of those will be the Samsung Galaxy Note9, which is scheduled to arrive on August 9, in just two weeks! This week we saw the Galaxy Note9 pictured in Coral Blue and Samsung teased its battery life, performance and ample storage.

We had some actual announcements too - the Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. Both bring decent specs and stock Android software, and are going to be available globally at superb prices.

Sony introduced the 48MP IMX586 - the highest-megapixel smartphone sensor - that will likely feature in the Sony Xperia XZ3 later this year.

The other announcement of note this week was the Honor 9N in India - this is the China-bound Honor 9i - with a 5.84-inch screen, a Kirin 659 chipset and a 13MP + 2MP dual camera.

This week Samsung showcased an unbreakable flexible OLED panel, which looks quite impressive and might make it to the company's flexible flagship that is due early next year.

Qualcomm revealed that Apple will not use its modems in 2018 iPhones and instead use Intel's exclusively. So far those were the slower of the two modems used in the iPhones, but we'll see if that changes with the next gen devices.

Rumor-wise the week's hot topics were the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Pro and the Honor Note 10 as well as the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 that might be be the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone outside of China.

This is it for this week, folks, see you next one!
