Process Of Transmission Line

  The transmission lines are used to conduct the current from high potential to low potential.
See the Fig given below....

Here, Two lines are shown in fig

  • Neutral Line 
  • Phase Line

Neutral Line

  The voltage of this line is always zero at any point.

Phase Line

  The voltage of phase line is assumed as 230 V at sending point. The current through this line flow high potential to low potential. 

The voltage of sending point is 230 V( Assumed ) and in receiving point the voltage is 0 V.

The total length from sending point to ending point is 230 Km (Assumed)

Note: The Electric Current always prefer Easiest way to flow ( Low Resistance way)

Now Come to matter,

Bird Standing With One leg:

  Current always flow through a closed path. If a bird standing with one leg in Transmission line means , The circuit is open, There is no way to flow the current after the bird.

So, The Current will not flow through the bird, So the bird is safe.

Bird Standing With two Legs:

   If a bird is standing with two legs, It will be a closed path, right ?
Therefore, current will flow through the bird, But the matter is how much current flows through the bird.
We have to calculate the voltage between legs of the bird.

In the phase line the voltage of sending point is 230 V (assumed) and receiving 0 V.

And the length of the line is 230 Km (assumed)

By formula,  
          Voltage Between 1 Km = Sending End voltage / Length of Line

So,                               V in 1 Km = 230/230 =1

If you check the voltage between any 1 Km of the phase line, The answer is 1,

Simply, The first 1 km from the sending end voltage will be 230 K, for the next 1 Km V =229 V, For After next V =228 V. In receiving point V = 0.

For 1 Km voltage will be 1 V, Then for 1 meter ?
Lets calculate,
  1Km = 1000 meter, right ?

Then                               V in 1 meter distance = voltage in 1 Km/ 1000
                                      V in 1 Meter=1/1000 = 0.001 V

So, The voltage between two legs of the bird is too small, So it will not shock the bird,

Neutral Line

  In neutral line, everywhere the voltage is 0 V, So If the bird sitting on neutral line, It will not get shocked.

Touching Phase Line with Neutral Line :

  The voltage between these two lines is always equal to the sending end voltage, Therefore the voltage is 230 V. It is enough to kill the bird, So the bird will die, If it touching these two lines
