Crippling Assistant Routines bug now fixed for non-Google smart speakers

Google appears to have swiftly fixed an issue that was causing Google Assistant Routines to not work correctly with third-party smart speakers.

Users with Assistant-powered speakers, like the JBL Link series, noticed last week that Routines were straight up refusing to work and Google's only suggested solution at the time was for buyers to contact their retailer or the device's manufacturer.

While it initially seemed like this may have been a local hardware issue, plenty of users began reporting the exact same problem, including many Android Authority readers.

Thankfully, it seems that Google eventually realized this was a server-side bug, as Routines are now working again according to a multiple users (via XDA-Developers).

The best way to check if your speaker is back to full health is to try setting up a Routine of your own. Assistant Routines let you set up multiple actions based on a single command.
