We don't see a lot of aerial combat games on mobile. Air Combat Pilot is a new one and it's not half bad. It takes place during World War II. Players take off, conduct combat missions, and return to base. It boasts 40 missions and 160 total objectives. In addition, there is a free flight mode along with a ton of upgrades. The developers promise more in future updates. It's a freemium game, but it doesn't affect game play too much. It's a decent flight game with some shooter elements.
Assassin's Creed Rebellion is a strategy RPG with gacha and kingdom building elements. Players recruit a bunch of assassins, infiltrate bad guy strongholds, and upgrade their fortresses and characters. You can add rooms and functions to your fortress and find DNA fragments to unlock other characters. It features similar graphics to games like Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition. You also get leaderboards and plenty of loot. It's one of the better freemium Assassin's Creed games from recent years for sure, even if the gacha elements are a little typical of a mobile RPG.
Ghostbusters World is the latest big Hollywood property with an AR GPS game. It functions a lot like its predecessors like Pokemon Go or The Walking Dead: Our World. Players move around the actual world, meet up at landmarks, and find ghosts in the real world. Players take on raid bosses with other players and catch ghosts. There is also a PvP combat element in the game as well. Most of the complaints are of the predictably large battery usage. People otherwise like the game. The battery usage is high because it uses GPS, screen, data, and camera. It's kind of impossible not to use a ton of battery.
Kingdom Rush Vengeance is the latest game in the venerable Kingdom Rush series. It keeps a lot of the same elements as previous games. That includes graphics, game play mechanics, and controls. This version adds new towers, plenty of upgrades, more heroes, and a new story line to follow with boss fights. Of course, it has Google Play Games achievements and some other small niceties. This is easily among the top two or three best tower defense releases of the year. It runs for $4.99 with some optional in-app purchases.
RuneScape is one of the original MMORPGs and it's now on mobile. This version keeps a lot of the good stuff from the original game. However, it adds updated graphics, a larger world, and more stuff to do. This version of the game also supports cross-platform play between your computer and mobile device. Thus, you can start on one and play further on the other or vice versa. The game is free-to-play. However, there is an optional subscription. It adds extras like more bank slots, more quests, more skills, and some other stuff. It's a non-freemium MMORPG, a rarity on mobile.

RWBY: Amity Arena is a new card duel game similar to Hearthstone or Clash Royale. This one uses characters from Rooster Teeth's popular RWBY franchise. Players choose their character, collect cards, and duel against other players. You also get the usual PvP elements and a global leaderboard. It's similar in premise to other card dueling games with some unique mechanics. However, the RWBY world is colorful and fun so it adds a different sort of feel from something like Hearthstone. It's a good game.
Simulacra: Pipe Dreams is a text game from the Simulacra franchise. Players enjoy the game through simple things like text messages, little games within the game, and other interactions. Basically, the main character has messages he doesn't remember sending. You have to figure it all out. Your decisions affect the outcome of the story and, of course, there are puzzles to figure out as well. This is an excellent spin-off from the main game. The best part is the price. Simulacra: Pipe Dreams is entirely free with no in-app purchases.
Shining Force is an old strategy RPG series from the SEGA Genesis days. The full trilogy is now on mobile thanks to the SEGA Forever series. This game is a port of all three Shining Force games. You can play the entirety of each one for free with ads, pay $1.99 for one of the games, or pay $4.99 for all three. They are fairly standard strategy RPGs. You move characters around a checkerboard style map, kill bad guys, level up, and progress through the story. There are some bugs here and there. We recommend playing through some of each game with the free version to make sure they work right before paying for them.
Teslagrad is a 2D puzzle-platformer game with some excellent animation quality and fun mechanics. Players unlock a variety of powers and use those powers to solve puzzles. You also get boss fights, hardware controller support, and support for Android TV and Nvidia Shield TV. Everything feels really smooth and the game play experience is just simply good. We couldn't find much wrong with this one. However, we do strongly recommend playing with a controller or on a platform with one (like Android TV or Nvidia Shield). It runs for $4.99 with no additional ads or in-app purchases.
Trivia Crack 2 is finally available after years of development. It keeps a lot of the fun elements from the previous game. You have a metric ton of questions and categories. In addition, you get online competitive modes, support for over 20 languages, user-generated questions, and the usual Trivia Crack stuff. This version adds a team element, a gacha element (yes, really), and some other extras. It doesn't feel fundamentally different from the old Trivia Crack, but there are enough things different to feel unique from the first one. Some prefer the first game and some prefer the second. Nobody is wrong.
