ARM's Mali-C52 and C32 ISPs will enable high quality HDR on action cams, drones

ARM unveiled a couple of image signal processors – the Mali-C52 and Mali-C32 – that will help deliver high-quality HDR video capture to the next generation action cameras, drones, smart home and robotic gadgets.

They can process images at up to 600 megapixels per second, that’s enough to do 4K at 60fps. Cameras up to 16MP are supported and the ISP has a dual output – it can deliver high resolution stills and a downscaled video stream simultaneously.

Both the C52 and C32 perform twenty five processing steps on each pixels. The major steps are HDR processing, noise reduction and color management.

HDR is done by merging

four exposures and the image is processed internally at 20-bits of precision. This improves dynamic range and low-light performance.

The Mali-C52 comes in two configurations – one optimized for image quality and one for silicon area (i.e. price). The Mali-C32 targets low-power devices such as hobby drones.
