Archos Diamond announced with a pop-up selfie cam and UD fingerprint reader

Archos went all in the last few days with a slew of new phones, but the Archos Diamond appears to be the most interesting of the bunch. And don't confuse it with last year's Diamond Omega. The 2019 Diamond is a totally different device and doesn't success the Omega from last year. This one's a mid-range device with high-end features.

Right off the bat, we can see that the Archos Diamond has a full-screen, notch-less display because the front-facing camera is hidden in a motorized pop-up unit. The display itself is 6.39-inch AMOLED, 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. A fingerprint reader is placed under the panel, which is a nice addition to the specs sheet.

The chipset is MediaTek's new mid-range Helio P70 aided by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of internal

storage with support for up to 128GB microSD cards.

The back houses a 16MP main camera with f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 5MP shooter for depth sensing. The pop-up selfie camera is 8MP with f/2.0 opening.

A 3,400 mAh battery is in charge of keeping the lights on and supports Mediatek's 18W Pump express charging with a USB-C charger. The handset also supports wireless charging and launches with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.

The price of the Diamond is €299 and will be made available in Europe starting May.
