Dirty Unicorns custom ROM calls it quits, Android Pie weeklies now available

Dirty Unicorns

In a blog post published this past Friday, the team behind custom Android ROM Dirty Unicorns announced that it's shutting things down.

According to the announcement, the developers behind Dirty Unicorns "have been doing this for a while now and have nothing to prove." Even though the weekly Android 9 Pie builds are "as good as they're going to be," the team believes that it's "time to move on."

Dirty Unicorns is comprised of volunteer developers that maintains the custom ROM for a dozen supported devices. These devices include the following:

  • Moto Z2 Force
  • The developers are free to support the aforementioned devices in an unofficial capacity once Dirty Unicorns goes under. Also, Dirty Unicorns plans to keep its Github repository up for anyone wanting to carry on a similar project or port any of the current work to future versions.

The announcement makes it sound as if Dirty Unicorns will shut down once it's done with the weeklies for Pie, but no exact timeframe was provided. Once it shuts down, Dirty Unicorns also plans to shut down its Discord server, Twitter account, and any other accounts it used for communication.

Until then, you can grab the Pie weeklies at the link below. Make sure to click the Downloads section up top and pick the device you have to download its corresponding Pie weekly.
