The North American smartphone market saw a sharp decline of sales in the first three months of 2019, compared to Q1 of 2018. A total of 36.4m smartphones were shipped in Q1 of 2019, compared to 44.4m in Q1 of 2018 - down 18%.
Of all shipped phones the iPhone XR, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e accounted for 25%. The iPhone XR saw 4.5M shipments while the Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e each moved 2M units.

Apple retained its leading share in Q1 of 2019 but shipped 3.3M phones fewer than the same period
of last year. Samsung made a big impact with the early introduction of the Galaxy S10 series, which managed to excite buyers with innovative features such as in-display fingerprint scanners (on the S10/S10+), punch hole cameras and the addition of a new ultra-wide angle shooter.

The complete absence of ZTE on the US market was also reflected in the number of total shipped phones.
