Schematic of Apple iPhone 12's smaller notch leaks

A relatively new Apple leakster has been consistently reporting Apple-related rumors with swell accuracy – a rarity for Apple leaks and rumors. @jon_prosser of FrontPageTech has accurately predicted the launch and release dates for the new iPhone SE. Prosser also reported on the cancellation of Apple’s March event for the iPhone SE.

The latest leak from Prosser is a schematic of the upcoming iPhone 12. It’s been previously rumored that Apple would reduce the size of the notch rather than get rid of it. According to this schematic image, we get an idea of how the new iPhone will keep Face ID in its second-generation chassis.

The notch is significantly smaller, and the bezel sees a slight size reduction. The notch manages to keep everything that is needed for Face ID to work, but in a smaller footprint that should yield a little more space in the display. It appears the way Apple was able to manage this is by shifting the earpiece up to the bezel so that everything could scrunch

inwards.

Just a few days ago, we saw some alleged leaks of the iPhone 12’s overall design, but the report mentioned that the notch was not yet narrowed down – and Prosser’s schematic didn’t match the one from that previous report. Otherwise, the iPhone 12 is expected to adopt a flattened frame akin to the iPhone 5’s chassis.

Reports have teetered between the iPhone 12 seeing launch delays from its expected release in September (due to COVID-10), to launching right on schedule as per a report last month.
