Amazfit introduced the GTR 2 and GTS 2 in China last month. Today the wearables finally escape the domestic market and set off for the United Kingdom and the United States, before covering the rest of the world.
Device | Price | UK Date of arrival | US Date of arrival |
Amazfit GTR 2 | £159 / $179 | October 30 | October 30 |
Amazfit GTS 2 | £159 / $179 | November 15 | November 1 |
You will be able to purchase the Amazfit GTR 2 in Obsidian Black only, while the GTS 2 will come in Midnight Black, Desert Gold, Urban Grey.
The two devices in the Amazfit GT 2 lineup might have the same pricing and largely similar core functionality, but they differ significantly on a few key aspects.
The first and most obvious is design - the GTS 2 has a rectangular aluminum body with a 1.65" AMOLED display and 20mm silicone straps. The GTR 2 on the other hand has a round 1.39” AMOLED display and comes in two versions - a Sport edition with 22mm silicone strap and an aluminum body and a Classic edition with stainless steel casing and 22mm leather strap.
The other major difference is battery life - the 246mAh battery of the GTS 2 can go through a week of regular use and up to 20 days in power saving mode. The GTR 2 has a much larger 417mAh cell that lasts 14 days and 38 days, respectively.
Finally, the weight differs with the GTS 2 sitting at 24.7g without the strap compared to the 31.5g for the Sport edition GTR 2 and 39g for the Classic edition.
Beyond that the two are essentially identical, packing a heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyro, air pressure sensor and ambient light sensor. They have built-in GPS and GLONASS receivers too and sport 5ATM waterproofing. They can track 12 different sports and use Bluetooth 5.0 to pair with your phone.
Both devices have a speaker and a built-in microphone that can trigger Amazon Alexa, but the feature won’t come out of the box - Amazfit is promising an OTA upgrade “soon”. It will arrive first in the US and users will be able to do all the menial tasks they usually do with their home speaker like asking for the weather or adding an appointment to the personal calendar.
