Welcome to your weeks recap and it begins with Huawei's big Mate 40 series unveil. Huawei had four phones to introduce - the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 Pro RS Porsche Design and they are looking impressive.
The new phones all have OLED displays, 5nm Kirin chipsets and multiple cameras on the rear. The Mate 40 Pro and Pro+ are among the best cameraphones to get right now with a main 50MP f/1.9 camera, a new 20MP ultrawide with autofocus and either a 5x periscope zoom (on the Pro) or a 3x zoom camera and 10x periscope zoom (on the Pro+).
Huawei told us the prices, but nothing about the availability. The Mate 40 is €900 for 8/128GB, the Mate 40 Pro is €1,200 for 8/256GB, the Mate 40 Pro+ costs €1,400 with 12/256GB and the RS Porsche Design is a whopping €2,300 with 12/512GB.
Moving onto the Galaxy S21 series - we saw the first renders of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra with cameras that are nearly flush with the rear panel. Another Galaxy S21-related story says that the Galaxy S21 and S21+ will have flat displays, while the S21 Ultra will be curved.
Apple's iPhone 12 and 12 Pro got into the hands of early reviewers and we got some of the first bits of information about the pair of new devices. A battery test revealed that the new iPhones lost 20% more battery while on 5G, than on LTE. At first the new iPhones won't support 5G in dual SIM mode, but Apple has said that the option is coming through an update.
According to renowned Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo Apple has received 7 to 9 million iPhone 12/12 Pro pre-orders during launch week, compared to 10-12 million of the iPhone 11 models.
We also found out the battery capacity of the iPhone 12 - 2,815mAh - and the iPhone 12 Pro Max - 3,687mAh.
Those were the highlights of the week. See you next one!
And periscope cams on all three - with 5x zoom on the Pro and 10x on the Pro+ and the RS. All three are powered by the Kirin 9000 5G chipset.
The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will begin arriving to customers on Friday, but weâre already getting a look inside one of them.
For comparison, all three iPhone 11 models managed 10-12 million pre-orders during launch week last year.
