Redmi Note 9T in for review

In the latest installment of "Keeping up with the Redmi Note 9 series" we have the Redmi Note 9T 5G. Those who’ve tried to follow Redmi’s convoluted naming strategy will notice that the Note 9T has basically identical hardware to the China-exclusive Redmi Note 9 5G save for the altered cameras setup and RAM/storage capacities. Well, we finally got a Redmi Note 9T review unit and these are our initial thoughts.

We can’t help but start with pricing. The Redmi Note 9T is one of the most affordable 5G handsets in Europe at €199 for the early bird pre-orders (€229 after) in the base 4/64GB trim. It’s powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 800U chipset which is still a rare commodity in these parts of the world.

Our review unit sports the Daybreak Purple color which shifts between different shades of purple depending on the lighting. The back features a textured plastic design which does help with grip and it’s also matte so no smudges here.

Upfront we have a fairly standard 6.53-inch IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a punch-hole cutout in the left corner for the 13MP selfie shooter. No high refresh rate here, just a standard 60Hz panel. It’s alright for the most part but nothing impressive. The software side also fails to impress as the Note 9T comes with Android 10 which is rather odd since it's 2021 already and Android 11 should be standard on all new devices. At least we have Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 12 skin on top.

The back houses three cameras but we’re not convinced of the need for a 2MP macro cam and the accompanying depth sensor. The main 48MP shooter should provide decent shots nonetheless. Box contents include an 18W charger, USB-C cable, and a basic TPU case.
