Let's take a look back on the final week of February, which was a fairly busy one.
Samsung announced that going forward it will offer at least 4 years of security updates to all smartphones launched after 2019. That huge list includes the Z, S, Note, A, M, XCover and Tab series.
Xiaomi announced the Redmi K40 series. The Redmi K40, K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ all have 6.7-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate and all four have a 4,520mAh battery with 33W charging that will bring 100% charge in 52 minutes. The K40 has a Snapdragon 870, the K40 Pro and Pro+ have Snapdragon 888's.
Xiaomi's other Redmi line - the Redmi Note 10 is edging closer too. We saw the retail boxes of both the Redmi Note 10 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro. Both promise to have AMOLED displays, the Redmi Note 10 will have a 48MP main camera, while the Pro will bring a 64MP snapper.
Samsung enabled the ECG and blood pressure monitoring features on the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3 lines in 31 countries. You will need to download the Health Monitor app in order to get the features to work.
Speaking of Samsung, it announced its new 50MP ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor with new Dual Pixel Pro technology, an evolution of the PDAF autofocusing tech. ISOCELL GN2 sensor's type size is 1/1.12”, which is the largest in a mass-market smartphone and has 1.4μm-sized pixels for “exceptionally detailed photographs in regular settings”. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra will premiere the new sensor.
While on the subject of camera sensors, Huawei could be the first to use Sony's IMX800 sensor. It's the first 1-inch sensor, developed for phones and it's even bigger than Samsung's ISOCELL GN2 sensor. Good times for mobile photography indeed.
We close the recap with Huawei. It announced its Mate X2 foldable phone with an in-folding design, much like the Galaxy Z Fold2. It has an 8-inch inner display with 2480x2200px resolution and squarish 8:7.1 aspect ratio. The outder screen is a 6.45-incher of a more conventional 21:9 aspect. Both displays are OLED and have 90Hz refresh rate. The Mate X2 also has a potent camera system with a 50MP RYYB main sensor, 12MP 3x tele camera, 8MP 10x periscope zoom camera and a 16MP ultrawide.
See you in March!
The three phones have the same display - a 6.7" Samsung E4 AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate.
The Note 10 series seems to have taken some inspiration from the Mi 10 Ultra and decorated its main camera with a silver perimeter.
Yes, there's a charger in the box - a 66W charger than can be used with laptops. There's also a headset and even a cool protective case.
And it has a mid-range 3x telephoto lens as well. The two screens have 90 Hz refresh rate, the inner one is almost square, the outer one is 21:9.
Supports modular ports, storage, memory, networking along with replaceable display, keyboard, battery, and mainboard.
The green pixels are split diagonally to receive information on the top and bottom of the pixel as well.
The P40 series had 1/1.28" sensors. Samsung just announced a 1/1.12" sensor, this Sony sensor will be larger than both of them.
The 30 Pro is powered by a Dimensity 800U chipset that can reach speeds of up to 2.34 Gbps on a 5G network.
